News has recently come out that the Arab league are belatedly calling for the UN to impose a no fly zone over Libya to prevent Colonel Gaddafi's continued brutal repression of the democratic rebellion. Asked why no Arab countries came out in support of the idea when Cameron first floated the idea some time ago, to almost global derision, a spokesman said:

"Well it is simple. We might have actually had to do something them. But by the time this has gone to the UN, and the UN has made a decision, and we are ready to act, we are now confident that it will already be too late. We therefore judge that now is the safest time to call for action."

The US, who have been trying to play down the possibility of military action in support of the rebels, have now clarified their position as well:

"Well," said a spokesman "our position is also very simple. If we sell weapons to the rebels we make money. If we actually do something to help them it costs us money. So its pretty obvious what we should do isn't it? I mean its not even like we can take their oil. The Brits already tied that up when they sold Gaddafi that Al Mardi Gra bloke, or whatever his name was - you know the guy we framed for the Lockerbie bombings."
